Naroda Patiya case: Gujarat HC acquits Maya Kodnani

The Gujarat High Court on Friday pronounced its verdict in the 2002 Gujarat riots case of Naroda Patiya.

Former BJP minister Maya Kodnani, who was among 32 people convicted in the case by a special court, was acquitted in Naroda Patiya Case. She had moved the High Court against the verdict.

The court however found Babubhai Patel alias Babu Bajrangi guilty and upheld his conviction.

Out of the 32 convicts in the case, Gujarat High court acquitted 17 people; conviction of 12 was upheld, verdict on two others awaited while one accused is dead.

The court was hearing 11 appeal petitions moved by the convicts, the Supreme Court-appointed SIT and the families of the victims of the riots.
