Facing a barrage of criticism on dynasty politics and nepotism from within her party, PDP President and former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti is training her guns on Delhi.
In a controversial statement she said that if Delhi tries to break PDP, the outcome will be exceedingly dangerous. Her statement was roundly criticised not just by BJP but also the National Conference and Congress.
Out of power after having run a coalition govt with BJP in J&K for nearly three years, former J&K Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has stirred a hornet’s nest with a statement. Mehbooba’s open threat that if Delhi tries to break PDP, the outcome will be exceedingly dangerous has triggered all-round criticism from other political parties in the state.
While the BJP has rejected allegations of trying to engineer defections in the PDP, it has termed Mehbooba’s threat as one that supplies oxygen to separatists.
Disagreeing with Mehbooba Mufti, National Conference leader and former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted, “Let me put this out here for all to remember NOT ONE NEW MILITANT WILL BE CREATED WITH THE BREAK UP OF THE PDP. People will not mourn the demise of a party created in Delhi only to divide the votes of Kashmiris.”
Congress and other political parties too objected to Mehbooba’s statement.
Mehbooba Mufti seems to be wary of a split in her party after the end of the PDP-BJP coalition govt in the state. Dissidence has reared its head in the party and Mehbooba has begun taking action against dissidents as well. Struck by dissidence, Mehbooba has sought to pass the blame elsewhere.
While Pakistan-based Syed Salahuddin, is the head of the terrorist organisation Hizbul Mujahideen that orchestrates terror attacks in India, separatist leader Yasin Malik is the head of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front.
J&K Chief Minister controlling separatism and terrorism was part of her mandate, but now an out of power Mehbooba is issuing a warning on renewed militancy.
